Rebecca Dorman For as long as I can remember, I have always loved to burn candles. However, up until the last few years, I did not know the harmful effects that burning paraffin candles can cause. It wasn’t until my husband became ill with toxic poisoning that I began to research all the things in my home that might be affecting him. Then one day while sitting on my lanai, I discovered the soot that had collected in the candle jar of one of the name brand candles that I purchased regularly. It was then that I realized that this soot had to be going other places besides the candle container. I was really surprised when I found out the amount of carcinogens that were being given off. As a search for non-toxic candles became frustrating, and not wanting to give up the joy of burning candles in my home, I decided to explore alternatives to paraffin wax candles. My research lead me to two possibilities: both beeswax and soy wax do not give off harmful carcinogens in their natural state. So being frugal and budget conscious, I selected soy wax and started making candles for my own use. Rebecca bonding with nature.
